working with us

Shelly Kroeger Photography consists of two photographers at every wedding. Shelly is the primary photographer, and always works with a second shooter for extra coverage. Having two photographers allows for twice the coverage on your wedding day, and never a missed moment. As a team, we provide two points of view and can be in two places at once. It is our goal to remain unobtrusive while providing a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Shelly strives to capture the spirit of your wedding as it unfolds throughout the day.

Alison & Thad

"Thad and I want to thank you for photographing our wedding so beautifully. The pictures are amazing! We've looked through them over and over, and each time we notice something new about them - another face in the background, an interesting angle, a striking color. You did a wonderful job of capturing both the aesthetics and the emotion of the day, leaving us with amazing reminders of the centerpieces and favors that we'd planned for months, as well as the spontaneous smiles, tears, and laughter that we will never forget. To look through the photographs is to really relive our wedding.

Not only are you highly skilled, but you were also a joy to work with! You are very professional and organized, and work very efficiently. We were so impressed with your ability to be everywhere and yet nowhere at the same time - capturing moments without disrupting them. Your easy-going, engaging personalities made our wedding party and guests feel comfortable and relaxed. We would recommend you highly to anyone!"

Jenna & Art

"Shelly and Peter are a joy to work with and I cannot imagine having chosen anyone else to document our wedding. The images they captured are so amazing. Working with Shelly Kroeger Photoraphy was great. We interviewed 12 photographers before we settled with them. If you are on the fence about choosing them don't think about it for another second. In my opinion they are the best at what they do. They are truly amazing, and I cannot say enough good things about them. They did such a fantastic job that our wedding is currently published in The Knot Wedding Magazine."

Kelly & Chad

"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! You were both wonderful through the entire process. From our first meeting, to our second, in the planning stages, the "day of", and your delivery after. You captured some of the most amazing moments, photographed pretty much everyone, and most importantly made us and our guests so comfortable! You said we would hardly know you were there, but we didn't imagine it would be so effortless. You also fit right into our crowd. We can't wait to send your pictures to our friends and family. You truly did a remarkable job. For all my worry about me not photographing certainly made the process the most enjoyable ever. I've never felt so comfortable in front of the camera. Thanks you again! And thank you for the website, image CD, and beautiful proof prints!"

Megan & Pete

"Shelly Kroeger Photography was a joy to be around and made me very comfortable, despite the fact that it was a very stressful and surreal day. Even my husband, who hates being in front of a camera, felt great about your unobtrusive approach and professionalism. Thanks again, I will be referring you to many."

Rachel & Charlie

"Our proofs are AMAZING. We love the candids and the posed shots. You truly captured all the details of the day and just about every single person there. There are just so many great images, it will be hard to narrow them down! You guys are superstars! A MILLION THANKS!"

Tiffany & Marc

"We chose Shelly Kroeger Photography for their outstanding work and artistic style. The thing that future brides and grooms need to keep in mind is that with Shelly, you are not just getting one tremendous photographer with an assistant, but rather two exceptional photographers for the price of one. They are truly easy to spend the day smiling with/at. They easily make you want to smile. They are talented, creative, easy-going, perceptive, and pay attention to the details of the day. Both on a personal and professional level, they are the best! I highly recommend Shelly and Peter! If I were to do it all over again, I wouldn't go with any other photographer. We got our proofs surprisingly, very quickly. We love our photos! Our photos are the best!"

What is your approach to wedding photography?

As a wedding photographer I blend the storytelling skills of photojournalism with an artistic eye for fine art images. In addition, my fashion photography background helps me to make everyone look their best. I love creating artistic shots of the bride and groom together, and I bring extra sensitivity to image making through my client relationships. A good wedding story is not only told with photojournalistic candids, but also with unique portraits, and beautiful details of the day. I strive to keep the day relaxed, and focus on capturing the romantic moments between the bride and groom. I understand the importance of your day, and my objective is to unobtrusively capture the spirit of your wedding by documenting every event, beginning with the bride and groom getting ready and ending with the last good-byes.

How long have you been in business?

I have been photographing weddings professionally for the past 9 years, and I typically shoot about 20-25 weddings a year.

Do you shoot film or digital?

I give you the choice. I am experienced in both mediums of shooting and feel that digital photography has recently caught up to film in its ability to provide sharp, vibrant, and archival black and white and color prints. With my digital package, you will receive a high res DVD of all of your images 6 months after the wedding date, and with my film package you will receive the negatives. Both packages include black and white and color prints. As a photojournalist, I think that black and white images are timeless and have a fine art appeal. However, I also know how much time has been spent to select the colors of your wedding day, and I understand how important it is to document these details in color.

What equipment do you use?

When shooting film, I use top grade professional 35mm Nikon and Contax medium format cameras. I try to shoot with medium format whenever possible, however today's quick-handling 35mm cameras have a faster focus and a greater ability to shoot in lower light situations. If I shoot digital, I use top of-the-line 12 mega pixel digital SLR cameras. I also employ a variety of different lenses of various focal lengths, hand held spot meters, two on camera flash systems, an off camera flash system, tripods, reflectors and light diffusers. I come prepared with everything I need to tackle any lighting situation, but I try to use as much natural light as possible to create the images of your day.

Where are you located?

I have offices in New York and San Francisco which allows us me to shoot on both coasts without extra travel costs. Most of my work is done in the U.S., but I also travel to many locations around the world.

Do you charge travel fees?

I do not charge travel fees for weddings that take place within two hours of San Francisco or New York. If your wedding is more than two hours away, I require accommodations for the night of the wedding. I happily welcome travel to other locations across the US and beyond. For weddings outside the Bay Area and New York Area, I require airfare and accommodations for the night before and the night of the wedding.

Will you have time to meet with us to discuss details prior to the wedding?

Absolutely. I feel that it is very important to meet with the bride and groom prior to the wedding. This allows me to get to know you and hear your stories, so that the uniqueness of your relationship is captured in your images. In addition, I will discuss the specific details of your day and make sure that there are no unanswered questions.

Do you location scout before the wedding?

Typically, if I have not shot at your location before, I will scout prior to the wedding to ensure familiarity with the grounds and lighting situations.

Do you offer wedding packages?

Yes. I offer eight and six hour photography packages with basic coverage, as well as packages that include finished albums and other ala cart services. Please contact me to obtain more information on my packages and prices. I am also willing to work with a couple to customize a package that fits their specific needs.

Do we get to keep the negatives or digital images?

The negatives and digital images (digital capture only) will be archived by Shelly Kroeger Photography for six months, after which time the bride and groom may obtain them free of charge.

Can we view our wedding images online?

Yes. My standard wedding packages include an on-line wedding gallery through This website is a convenient way for you and your friends and family to view and order photos on-line. Please check out the CLIENT PAGE for more information on this service.

Have you ever been published?

Yes. My work has been published several times in Martha Stewart Weddings, Brides, Elegant Bride, PDN Wedding Issue, The Knot, Modern Bride, Wedding Bells and many more. Please check out my PRESS page to view samples.

What kind of finished products do you offer?

Every package comes with a handmade Japanese silk-covered proof album and slipcase containing all of the wedding images from your day for you to keep. I also offer a variety of different Leather Craftsman albums, including the traditional fine art, matted album and also the more contemporary “magazine style” or “coffee table” album. Other albums include a handmade Japanese silk-covered album with beautiful fine art paper. All albums come with a custom designed slipcase to keep them protected for a lifetime. I also offer hand bound silk covered album portfolios and boxes.

How long before I see my images?

Your proof album will be ready approximately 6-8 weeks after your wedding date, and your on-line portfolio will be available a few days after you receive your proof album.
